Last November, WhatsApp added the option to hide your last seen from specified contacts, but the pursuit of privacy did not end there.
This month, the app launched a new feature that allows you to hide your “online” status from select contacts or from everyone. The feature will be accessible on WhatsApp Beta for Android in the near future.
According to WABetainfo, Android version 126.96.36.199 will include a new privacy setting. Users can access the new feature by opening the app and going to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last seen and online, which shows a setting for who can see you when you’re online.
Because you may only choose whether to make everyone know your availability or only those who can see your last seen, this choice is directly related to the Last seen setting.
The connection between the last seen and the online status may appear strange, but it makes sense. If you don’t want someone to see your last seen, you certainly don’t want them to see your online status. As a result, it eliminates the need to configure two different settings.
At best, it appears to be a simple addition. However, it is a feature that should help to bridge the gap between the main WhatsApp program and mods like GB WhatsApp, which users may install to gain more privacy settings. The change addresses more than just knock-offs; feature-rich competitors like Telegram have long had similar capabilities. While it’s exciting to see it debut on WhatsApp, the new experience is still in development. You’ll have to wait till it reaches the stable channel before you can use it.
